Sousa and Laffy fought in the outstanding combat tournament held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in November 2019, and went to war with knockdowns of each side in round one.
” Speaking of Raffy, I’m happy with his success,” Sousa told MMA Fighting. “He’s rising and being hyped. I don’t know if we’ll see you again, but if we do, we can fight. I know he’s evolved that much. He’s not the same guy, but he evolved with training and experience, just like he evolved.
Rafi joined the UFC after stopping Raimond Magomedaliev at the DWC in October 2023. Sousa was scheduled to compete in the show a year before Raffy, but his contract with the PFL prevented him from taking the opportunity. Sousa filed a lawsuit against PFL in 2023, but eventually reached a contract in 2024 to compete for them under Bellator Banner.
“It’s like a movie on top of your head,” Sousa said of the entire saga. “The PFL and Bellator have been doing a lot of stuff over the past few years. I was supposed to compete with competitors a few years ago, but that didn’t work for the manager I had.
Sousa had to meet with Perez to get a late finish and win a contract, but he was always confident.
“He’s Mexican and Mexican, so I was hoping he would attack with me, so I thought he would come to war,” Sousa said. “I was surprised, but it was a great fight. We have to make things happen. When he put me down I was very relaxed and saw him wasted too much energy on the ground. I was about to knock that guy out.
Finally, Brazil’s lightweight UFC fighter jets said it volunteered to be part of the Rio de Janeiro card on October 11th, but was told it was highly unlikely. Sousa is targeting her debut later this year.
