Tom Aspinall is waiting for Jon Jones.
For over a year, the MMA media cycle has been dominated by the long and nasty sagas of Aspinall and Jones, whether the two UFC heavyweight champions will merge their titles. Recently, Jones has been much more leaning towards trolling aspinel in late bookings, and now aspinel is bumping into them.
On Monday, Aspinall told them Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen Good guy/bad guy Show that he was waiting for Jones. Jones says he’s retired from the game.
“John is retired,” Aspinel said. “What are you talking about? Don’t you follow John on social media? The guy is living his best life. He has an amazing career. We know everyone. We think Yong is a religious guy. The candidate is tired of it, everyone is tired of it, and even the fans are retiring.
Jones has not officially retired, but it appears he is not approaching fighting again anytime soon. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion is open and although it’s not clear whether he wants to fight again, he claims he’s just living his best life. And for Aspinall, it almost confirms it.
“If one man was thinking about retirement, he’s retired,” Aspinel said. “I’m not thinking about retirement. I’m thinking of getting this division active, making the heavyweight division great again, starting these big fights and fighting these candidates who are sitting on the sidelines who have been waiting for over a year at this point. I’m here to fight.”
Aspinall is currently the longest interim champion in UFC history, within 600 days. And while some people may be upset about waiting for the best shot of all time like Jones, aspineol doesn’t bother you. He’s ready to keep things going and he says it will happen soon.
“I’m not looking to fight John Jones,” Aspinel said. “I’m looking to compete for an indisputable heavyweight championship. That’s what I want. I want to be the UFC’s indisputable heavyweight champion. Many people who compare me to Michael Chandler are comparing Michael Chandler.
“It doesn’t matter who it is. Chiryl Gaine, (Alexander) Volkov’s rematch, (Mileton) Almeida, Derrick Lewis, Brock Lesnar, whoever it is, I don’t care. I want to fight everyone. In the future, he deserves all the money and success he gets. I’m going to fight someone.
