The later announced that Edman suffered from a sprain in his right ankle while rounding up a base.
Roberts provided the latest update on the Utility Man after the beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0.
“It’s a recurrence of what he’s been dealing with,” Roberts said. “After he hits the bag, I don’t know how it’s not IL. We’re clearly going to get Muncie back.
Roberts believes Edman will be on the sidelines with an ankle illness and will spend more than two weeks. The 30-year-old also spoke about repeated injuries and revealed how annoyed the injuries have been for him this season.
“It felt a little worse than what I felt in Boston last week. I just did something odd on bass,” Edman said. “I think it’s too early to tell. I see the image and you get that. It’s a shame. I try to play the game very hard, but it’s hard to feel like I don’t have the stability I need. I do rehab every day. I get treatment after the game.
Unfortunately, Edman is likely heading for Illinois, but it’s best for the utility man to fully recover in preparation for the postseason.
