Gonsorin underwent internal brace procedures and flexor repair. His return timeline is 8-10 months per Friedman.
Gonzolin, who has been out since early June, has already had a long shot to return to this season. However, he now undergoes his second major elbow surgery two years after going under the knife towards the end of the 2023 season for Tommy John’s surgery.
Gonsorin’s final full season went 16-1 in 2022 with a career-high 130.1 innings and 2.14 ERA.
In 2023 he regressed to a 4.98 ERA before undergoing Tommy John’s surgery.
Gonsorin missed everything in 2024 and was scheduled to enter 2025 with a starting rotation, but suffered a back injury in the spring training that shelved him until late April.
Gonsorin then started seven times this season, moving 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA before returning to IL.
Gonsorin and the avoided arbitration in a one-year, $5.4 million deal over the past offseason. He is suitable for arbitration another year ago, before entering free agency after the 2026 season.
