Sidney Sweeney swings in a role that praises her many awards when she transforms into boxer Christy Martin in the new film of the title Christie.
The first trailer for the biography was dropped on Thursday ahead of the film’s release on November 7th
In the film, Sweeney portrays Martin, who has never imagined life beyond the roots of a small town in West Virginia. Supported by grit, raw resolve and an unwavering desire to win, she charges into the boxing world under the guidance of her husband Jim (Ben Foster), who has become a trainer and manager. But Christy shows off her ring’s fiery persona, but her toughest fight unfolds outside of it.
At her peak, Martin is one of the world’s top female fighters, and has a career that eventually gained her recognition after becoming the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
However, Martin also faced many tragedys in her victory. This included an unstable relationship with her husband, who eventually went out of control after trying to kill her in 2010.
Sweeney threw herself into the role after training in grappling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, portraying Martin in the film, packing for an extra 35 pounds of 35 pounds, while building up athletic roots.
Before the film’s debut, Sweeney admitted that he actually threw and hit with a real punch while filming.
“Every fight you see, we’re actually punching each other. We’re totally gaining momentum,” Sweeney told Vanity Fair. “I always believed that if you’re either a stunt double or fake a hit, you can’t feel real.”
