Liverpool captain Virgil van Dik has been openly tackling the club’s offensive situation this summer, following the famous departure of two important forwards.
Speaking to journalist Alex Crook, the Dutch centre-back admitted that the Reds’ frontline had been hit hard and strongly suggested that reinforcements would be needed before the transfer window closes.
Van Dik was talking to journalists after Liverpool’s Community Shield was defeated against Crystal Palace.
The Reds gave up a lead twice against the Crystal Palace team, determined at Wembley.
Virgil Van Dijk demands attacking signatures in Liverpool
As Ben Jacobs reported, Van Dick told Crook:
“We lost Darwin. He went to Saudi Arabia. We lost Lucho. He went to Bayern. I think there’s room for the attackers to strengthen us. Let’s see what the windows bring…”
Van Dijk’s comments highlight the growing consensus among Liverpool supporters and critics, and among critics that they need fresh firepower to stay competitive in the Premier League this season and in Europe.
They signed Aintrak Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitique this summer with a big bucket move, showing that the attacker scored an early goal for the Reds to get a glimpse of his talent at Wenby, with the Liverpool captain believing that more depth and quality in the attacking position is needed.
The Reds want to seal Alexander Isaac’s Deek
Darwin Nunes left the club and joined Saudi Arabia’s Al Giral, while Luis Diaz was sold to Bayern Munich. The Reds have been generated in large quantities from the sales of these two players and are now planning to reinvest that money into a new signature.
The club’s dream target remains Newcastle United striker Alexander Isaac, but the Magpie is reluctant to ease their stance at this point after rejecting Liverpool’s first bid for the attacker.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for ISAK and what Arne Slot and his management will decide on the new signature this summer.
