Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Alistair posted a powerful homage to his teammate Diogo Jota after Portugal International was tragically killed in a car accident in Spain.
The 28-year-old and his brother were confirmed dead after the vehicle fired on the A-52 highway near Palacios de Sanabria after it left the road.
According to CNN Portugal, the previous wolves were advised not to fly after a recent surgery and were on the road to Santander to return to England when a crash fell.
The world of football is shaking with news and is beginning to gain respect from Merseyside teammates.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai break silence with message
On his Instagram, Mac Allister said: “I can’t believe it. I always remember your smile, your rage, your intelligence, your friendship, and everything that made you to who you are.
“It hurts so much – we will miss you. Rest in peace, dear Diogo.”
Hungarian captain Dominique Zoboschlei wrote, repeating those feelings: “The words can’t explain how miserable and devastated we are.
“Your smile, your love for the game will never be forgotten. We will miss you so much, but you will be with us, on and off the pitch.
“Our thoughts and prayers are in your family. Rest in peace, brother.”
Diogo Jota’s Anfield Legacy will be remembered forever
Jota has made 182 appearances for Liverpool and has scored 65 goals since joining from the Wolves in 2020. He represented Portugal 49 times and scored 14 goals for the National Side.
The versatile forward played a key role in the campaign that won the Premier League title under Arne Slot, making it one of the team’s most reliable offensive options.
Portugal’s Euro 2025 opener is calling for this tragic news to be postponed after it became a very violent hit.
More respect is expected in the coming days as the club and supporters continue to lament the players who have made a lasting impression on and off the pitch.
