Brooklyn Net will need to find a long-term head coach to succeed in the NBA.
Over the past few seasons, Brooklynnet has become a title contender to the bottom feeder of the Eastern Conference.
It can also be accused of losing Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden and others that the franchise cannot find a reliable head coach.
Over the past three seasons, the net has changed head coach four times. Currently, Jordi Fernandez is the man behind the clipboard in the net.
The net has undoubtedly made a big mistake by saying goodbye to Kenny Atkinson in 2020.
But there’s no point in regretting it. What the team can expect right now is that Jordi Fernandez can transform the team.
Fernandez was named the team’s head coach at the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. In his first year, he led the net to a 26-56 record as he missed the postseason for the second straight year.
Before he took the helm of the net, Fernandez spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings.
Fernandez has the opportunity to revamp his team’s culture, given the freedom to have young rosters featuring Cameron Johnson and Nick Claxton.
The 26-56 record is by no means good, but remember that Fernandez only has a year of head coaching experience under his belt.
Many may quickly amortize Fernandez as a shiny head coach, but the 42-year-old has shown early signs of strong leadership.
This was evidenced by Fernandez’s reaction to the net, suffering from the biggest defeat in franchise history last season. He showed nothing but support for his players after the Net was defeated by the LA Clippers by the 59-pointers.
With that in mind, the net should give Fernandez his time.
