The Los Angeles All-Star catcher set out on Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a clear hand injury.
Smith left the foul ball out of his hand at the bottom of the innings two. He was replaced by Catcher Dalton rushing as a pinch hitter at the third top.

Smith was checked by the trainer in the dugout heading into the three innings. He was then eventually removed from the game.

Smith is in the middle of his All-Star season, hitting .296 on 17 home runs, hitting 61 runs and his OPS is .902. He’s been depressed over the last month, but he was the hero on Sunday.
It was his fourth career pinch hit, a walk-off home run, putting him second on the best list of all time. Only Jason Giambi has more in MLB history.

Who will replace Will Smith for the ?
If Smith is forced to miss time, Catcher Dalton Rush will take on the everyday role of LA. Teams should also develop backup catchers. As of now, Smith and Rushing are the only catchers of the team’s 40-man roster following the Hunter Federuccia trading deadline.
Ben Rothvevett, the acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on this deal, will be an option. He’s hitting .236 with an OPS of .690 in 16 games against Triple A Oklahoma City.
