Reinier de Ridder is targeting Khamzat Chimaev. Reinier de Ridder’s recent knockout victory over Bo Nickal quickly changed the conversation in the UFC middleweight division, with the Dutch candidate paying attention to the high-profile clash with now top-ranked Khamzat Chimaev.
Ridder vs. Chimaev enhancements
Reinier de Ridder recently discussed how he envisions a potential battle with Khamzat Chimaev and reflected on his latest victory over Bo Nickal in an interview with Submission Radio.
Dutch-born Rhine de Ridder expressed confidence in his chances for Chimaev. “I think I have a good shot in the fight with Kamzat. What makes him special is the attacks he comes out of. A lot of people get overwhelmed by how quickly he’s explosive.” He acknowledged the intensity of Chimeh, but suggested that it would not rattle easily.
De Ridder was an immediate impact after joining the promotion, finishing third in a row on Gerald Meerschaert, Kevin Holland and Bo Nickal. The Dutch fighter, a former two-division champion in a one-time championship, currently holds a professional record of 20-2, seeking higher rank opposition when climbing the UFC’s 185-pound ladder.
Meanwhile, Khamzat Chimaev is undefeated 14-0, sitting second in the UFC middleweight rankings. Khamzat Chimaev has established himself as the top contenders in his recent victory over former champions Kamaru Usman and Robert Whittaker, and is widely expected to challenge the title against Dricus du Plessis later this year.
Reinier de Ridder defeats Bo Nickal
Reinier de Ridder also spoke about his experience fighting in the US, beating Bo Nickal and highlighting the atmosphere provided by the American crowd. “The American crowd is so cool, guys. They really come to the party. They were booing me a bit when I left, but then they were pretty pleased with me. I started screaming Iowa’s stuff and they responded very well.” He said.
De Ridder recalls TKO’s recent victory over Bo Nickal at UFC Des Moines and explains that his thinking is entering the fight. “I wasn’t scared of his wrestling, I wasn’t scared of what he brought. I chose to really focus on what I brought to this fight, and I think it’s important for everyone to know.” De Ridder’s approach was rewarded as Nikkal finished with a knee on his body in the second round, and American college wrestling highlighted his first professional defeat.
As De Ridder continues to rise in the division, a matchup with top contenders like Chimaev represents a key step towards title competition, attacking two of the division’s most skilled grapplers at the top of the UFC middleweight class.
