Los Angeles outfielder Michael Comfort has struggled throughout the opening game of the 2025 season.

Conforto is cutting .169/303/.289 with two home runs and five RBIs. Manager Dave Roberts believes the 32-year-old is overly cautious at the plate.
“I think there’s a lot of motivation,” Roberts said recently. “A little too cautious. He’s just not convicted in his batting zone, what he wants to do at the batting. Yesterday I thought he hit the ball well on the left field. I thought he hit a changeup on the backside.
In 2024, Comfort hit 20 home runs with .237 clips, hitting 66 runs, and the San Francisco Giants’ .759 OPS was hit. The outfielder’s best performance was in 2015, when he played a pivotal role in the New York Mets playoff runs. He averaged .333 on two home runs in the 2015 World Series against the Kansas City Royals.
hopes Conforto will replicate that type of performance in 2025, and Roberts thinks it will become clear to the batter’s box.
“But for me, I think when he gets there, he just wants to be clear, free and easy,” Roberts said. “I think when they’re having a bit of a brawl, there’s a bit of a fog with the guy.”
Comfort was dropped to nine holes for a game against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. This is the first time in his career that he has hit the final place in the lineup.
