Coconut Creek, Fla. – Horiguchi is back in the UFC and there is only one in his mind.
Former Bellator and Rizin Champion, Horigchi (34-5 MMA, 7-1 UFC) wants to add UFC Gold to his trophy case.
“I always wanted to go back to the UFC, and every time I was thinking about it,” Horiguchi told MMA Junkie on Tuesday in the top team in the US. “I need to get a belt. But my friend has one. It’s going to be a good fight.”
origuchi, 34, will return on June 21, in Azerbaijan vs. Tagher Ulanbekov (16-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC). Mark his first UFC fight since his victory over Alibagautinov in November 2016. His only loss in the promotion was a failed title bid in the UFC 186 main event against Demetrious Johnson in April 2015.
“I know all the situations (now),” Horiguchi said when asked about how it had changed since the battle a year ago. “I’ve improved a lot. I’d like to try that technique in the UFC.”
Although not yet announced by the UFC, the rumored title battle between Alexander Pantoja and Kaikara France appears to be:
Horiguchi and Pantoja (29-5 MMA, 13-3 UFC) are longtime training partners at ATT. According to origuchi, the two fighters are not opposed to having to fight each other. Their home gym, a training home for dozens of active UFCs and PFL fighters, has experienced similar scenarios before.
“Yeah (we’re friends with fighters),” Horiguchi said. “Friends can make good money. That’s a good thing. If we decide to fight, we might train in separate rooms with a little more specific training.”
Horiguchi has competed in both Flyweight and Bantamweight throughout his career. However, at present, £125 is the only division of his plan.
“I need to get a belt, so I’m going to flyweight,” Horiguchi said. “I don’t really know. Right now, I’m focusing on flyweight.”
