The Phoenix Suns had to choose between stars Jordan Goodwin and Jared Butler after both were sensational in the preseason.
The Phoenix Suns needed to make some changes to their roster this offseason in order to move on from their failed Big 3 experiment.
The first step was for the Suns to trade Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. The Suns then acquired Bradley Beal in an effort to reshape their roster.
Instead, the Suns signed Jordan Goodwin and Jared Butler to preseason contracts. Both stars had great performances in the end, with Goodwin outpointing Devin Booker in the match.
However, even though Jared Butler scored 35 points against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Suns had to make the decision to waive him.
Jordan Ott spoke to reporters after the Phoenix Suns’ practice session for the new NBA season and discussed recent roster moves.
When asked why the Suns waived Jared Butler, Ott admitted it was a difficult decision because he played so well for the Suns in the preseason.
“These decisions are always difficult. He made it really difficult. He’s been a part of us for several months. He’s really helped our group, helped his teammates and increased the intensity of our camp. He made some really tough decisions.”
“Obviously, he helped us in the game as well. It was a difficult decision. He played well…Hopefully JB knows in the end that we tried to do our best…He’s a really good player. We’ll see him again soon.”
Additionally, when discussing how Jordan Goodwin snagged Jared Butler for a spot on the final roster, Ott praised his presence at the defensive end as a big plus.
“Just the added roster spot gives us flexibility. Goodwin brings exactly what we’ve seen him play for years.”
“He’s got an edge, he’s got a defensive side. He’s been playing really well since he’s been here. When you talk to him, his energy is contagious…”
Jordan Goodwin has shown he can contribute at a high level with the Los Angeles Lakers and is expected to do the same with the Phoenix Suns.
