Piers Morgan may not like Jake Paul very much, but that doesn’t mean he wants a legal battle with his boxers.
After Paul won his recent victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Morgan criticized his former YouTuber for the opposition he faced, earning a professional record of 12-1. In a social media post about Paul’s victory over Chavez, Morgan said he is “killing boxing with this boring, gradual bullshit.”
That led to Paul threatening legal action against anyone who claims he is correcting his fight, and he went as long as he hired a high-powered Alex Spiro to represent him in a potential lawsuit. A widely respected lawyer with connections with numerous celebrity clients, including Jay-Z and Elon Musk, Spiro has promised a “consequence” to anyone making an honorable and loss statement about Paul’s boxing career.
On Saturday, Morgan posted a new statement on Twitter, clarifying his previous statement regarding Paul’s status as a boxer.
“A few weeks ago, Jake Paul’s boxing career posted “Boying Stage Bulls*t,” Morgan wrote on Twitter. “What I meant is that his fight is primarily against older, past Prime enemies, who may have an advantage on both sides and may have entertainment value.
“But if the report is correct that Jake is in negotiations to fight Anthony Joshua, it will clearly be a serious and reliable match against one of the world’s best heavyweights.
After Morgan posted his statement, Paul responded on Instagram with one of his own.
“(Oh my god) The first farmer I sue will be on his knees and apologised,” Paul wrote. “Who am I lying in my name and suing next?”
While Paul had already suggested he was exploring legal action against Morgan, online records did not reveal pending lawsuits, federal databases can take days to break records.
Either way, Morgan seems to have preferred to publicly deal with his past comments, rather than going to a fight with Paul in court.
