The new era of the Los Angeles Lakers under Mark Walter’s ownership offers new hope for the team to move forward.
As if Luka Doncic’s arrival wasn’t enough, La Lakers has a new acquisition.
The Bass Family has decided to sell the team to Mark Walter, a minority investor who owns the LA Dodgers and invests in multiple sports franchises.
Amidst the excitement from the star player, Luka Donsic has already expressed his approval and has issued a statement offering his commitment to the project.
Walter turned the LA Dodgers around in 2012 after the investment group bought the franchise.
Mark Walter has already received a public seal of approval from La Lakers legendary Magic Johnson, but the pair are linked through business connections.
It’s worth noting who else has previously assured Mark Walter, as La Dodgers head coach Dave Roberts gave his owners a very public support after winning the World Series in 2024.
Roberts’ comments give hope to La Lakers head coach JJ Reddick.
Last year, Roberts said: “I can’t say enough about Mark Walter and the entire ownership group. You’re in a big market. And they’re just as competitive as we do.
“So, to give you a chance to win a championship every year, that’s all we can ask for. Then it’s up to us to go there and play. I’m so grateful to be in this position.”
For fans of JJ Redick and La Lakers, Roberts’ words are going well. This past season, the team has not had a roster to win the championship.
The lack of team size was exposed in the playoffs and can be excused for this due to the revoked move of Mark Williams, but the problem goes deeper.
The Lakers have been managing his roster badly since winning the title in 2020, and Johnny Buss has admitted that she quickly disbanded the team.
A smarter front office with stuffed animals could have been better built around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Too many talented players are allowed to leave, such as Alex Caruso and Ivica Zubac.
Walter proved with the LA Dodgers, where he delivered the championship roster. And the coaches and players left.
